About image cropping
Cropping removes the outer parts of an image to leave only the area you select — unlike resizing, it changes the framing, not just the scale. Pixuno's crop tool overlays a rule-of-thirds grid on the image, the classic composition guide photographers use to keep the main subject off-center and the shot visually balanced.
A fixed aspect ratio is often the actual goal: a profile photo needs to be square (1:1), a YouTube thumbnail needs 16:9, a Pinterest pin needs a tall 9:16, and a printed 4×6 photo needs 3:2. Locking the ratio while you drag means every corner and edge handle moves together, so you never end up with a crop that's technically the right shape but visually off — you can concentrate on framing instead of doing math.
Because crop only removes pixels rather than re-encoding the rest, the retained area keeps its original quality — there's no compression pass applied by cropping itself. If you also want a specific pixel size after cropping (not just a ratio), run the result through Resize afterward.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
You can drag the crop handles to any position and the coordinates are displayed in pixels. For precise crops, combine cropping with the Resize tool.
What aspect ratios are supported?
Pixuno supports Free (no constraint), 1:1 (square), 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 9:16 (portrait). More ratios can be applied using free mode.
Will cropping reduce quality?
Cropping does not reduce quality. It simply removes the pixels outside the selected area — there is no re-encoding quality loss for the retained area.
Does cropping work on mobile?
Yes, the crop interface supports touch events. You can drag the crop area and handles with your finger on a touchscreen.
What's the difference between cropping and resizing?
Cropping cuts away part of the image, changing what's in the frame. Resizing scales the whole image up or down without removing anything. Use both together — crop for framing, resize for exact final dimensions.
